Which scale do you prefer for ancients?
Which scale of figures do you like to play ancients in. I prefer 6mm in this category because you can fit more figures in a unit which adds to the visual appeal. Ancients is the category where I think 6mm is better rather than other periods such as Napoleonic or other historical periods because you don't get many figures per base. Whereas with ancients Baccus offer a service where you can produce your own army pack where you decide how many figures per unit you want, anywhere from 48 figures in a close order unit up to 96 figures per unit. I reallly am tempted by this and may place a pre-order before going to York in February.

Fraid it's 15 MM for me all the way. However I am looking at a F&IW 25 MM game based on DBA-HX. But 15s are the perfect scale in my book. Terry

1/72 plastics with a leavening of metal 20mm. Everything I've got is in this scale. donald

Good idea there as they aren't particularly expensive. There are some good sets around too.

HaT, one of the better manufacturers is a DBA fan. He even markets boxes that have complete DBA armies in them. Zvesda figures for quality. Some others cover various periods & are worth a look. For scans, I think everyone knows this site. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/ donald

I quite like the look of the Zvesda testudo. I think it comes with some legionnaires in standard fighting poses too. Very nice set.

i'm a convert to 6mm. being an old timer i started out with 20mm and moved on to 25mm but nowadays they are too pricey for me. when Peter Laing started out he sent some pre production ancients to my mate Derek Sharman who ran the Wargamer's Den in Durham and they were a revelation as with 25mm we had been able to herd Derek's Persians into a corner of the board with the Greeks but now we were outflanked and couldnot get to grips with the blighters. The small scales offer a lot in playability but the 25's do look nice
